The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece of a game with tons of replay value. One of the reasons why it’s so fun to replay the game is due to the plethora of mods available. They range from simple quality of life improvements to balance patches to complete reworks of the combat system.

If you’re looking to try out some exciting additions to The Witcher 3, here are 15 of the best mods for The Witcher 3 that are sure to enhance your enjoyment.

    Debug Console Enabler

The Debug Console Enabler allows you to unlock the Debug Console which grants access to many useful functions. You can spawn enemies, change the weather, heal yourself, make yourself invincible, and even switch your character any time you want. It essentially turns you into God.

The Debug Console Enabler also allows you to easily interact with other mods you’ve installed. Definitely a must-have mod.

    Nexus Mod Manager

Nexus Mod Manager is basically your gateway into modding. This mod allows you to easily download, install, and uninstall mods with a simple click. It also allows you to manage mods, edit which one takes priority, what order they start, and so on.

Just like Debug Console Enabler, Nexus Mod Manager is a crucial tool for your modding journey.

The Witcher 3 HD Rework Project

This mod is a graphic enhancing mod that turns up your game’s textures and graphics up a notch.

With this turned on, you’ll get to experience the Witcher world in full HD. You’ll likely add quite a bit to your gameplay time from stopping and staring at the quality and depth of detail with this mod.

Of course, you’ll need a good gaming laptop or desktop to fully enjoy this mod.

    Over 9000

If you’re a hoarder and want to collect every item you find, you’ll love the Over 9000 mod. Aptly named, this mod gives your inventory extra weight of up to… you guessed it, 9000.

With this mod, you can essentially carry as many items as you want without fear of going over capacity. After all, you never know when you might need that one particular item in those rare occasions.

    • Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in.

    Fast Travel From Anywhere

If you’re not a fan of traveling by foot or horseback, the Fast Travel From Anywhere mod lets you fast travel anywhere and anytime you want.

This handy tool will help you get to missions faster and complete more side quests. It’s especially helpful if you’ve already played through the game before and just want to speedrun it again.

The autoloot mod lets you automatically pick up loot off of enemies you kill. Very convenient, especially when paired with the Over 9000 mod. By the end of the game, you’ll be swimming in items with these two mods on.

FC3 is a mod created by one of the actual developers of The Witcher 3. It balances the overall game by providing buffs and nerfs here and there to enemies, weapons, and allies.

The FCR3 mod also fixes lots of bugs in the game to provide smoother gameplay. Beware though, the game does get a bit harder to beat with the FCR3 mod as you can’t rely on some of the more overpowered weapons and attacks.

    All Quest Objectives On Map

This convenient mod shows every objective for your active quest right on the map. It’s especially handy for people that like to pursue multiple quests at once.

You can also easily change the currently tracked objective without going all the way over to the Quests menu.

    Auto Apply Oils

Applying the right type of oils against certain enemies all the time can be a hassle. With Auto Apply Oils, the mod automatically applies the correct oil against the enemy you’re fighting.

Overall a simple mod but one that saves quite a bit of time.

    Friendly HUD

The Friendly HUD mod was designed to make the user experience a lot better. You’ll be able to fully customize the HUD to allow for quick access to potions, bombs and oils; quick switching between crossbows and bombs; and a way to pause the game quickly.

PhotoMode allows you to freely pause the game, move the camera around, and take a screenshot of anything you want in any perspective.

Capture the breathtaking scenery The Witcher 3 is known for, or those humorous moments when you encounter a bug in full detail and want a close-up.

    No Fall Damage

As its name says, this mod prevents you from taking any fall damage. You can now parkour around towns without fear of splatting on the cobblestones and visiting the loading screen once again.

    Indestructible Items

One of the more frustrating things in The Witcher 3 is having your weapon break on you. Well, this mod prevents your weapons from degrading at all.

You’ll be able to rest assured your favorite weapon remains in pristine condition after every fight, so you can continue hacking away with it without worry.

    Mod Limit Fix

If you’re a fan of playing the game with mods, you’ll probably want Mod Limit Fix, which removes the mod limit. Let’s be honest, there’s no such thing as too many mods!

    The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition

This mod completely reworks the combat system in The Witcher 3.

Injuries can now happen with any attack, there are new animations, new ways to parry, and several different ways to charge over distances. The biggest change is it removes the autotargeting system, allowing you to attack any enemy you want in any way or order you like.

Since this mod completely changes the game, you’ll probably only want to try it after you’ve already finished the game once. This mod alone is good reason to play the game through another time.

The Witcher 3 mods: Our best mod recommendations and how to install them in Wild Hunt

A list of essential PC mods and how to add them to your game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is undoubtedly one of the best games of the last decade. As it’s been out for a while, you might be wondering how to tailor it more to your liking.

This page explains the essentials to modding the PC version — from how to mod The Witcher 3 and which are the best mods for The Witcher 3.

A word of warning — while the mods should all be fine, whenever you mod a game you do run the risk of breaking a game. As such, it’s worth doing slowly, loading one at a time rather than picking 50 and trying them all out at once.

Whenever you’re modding a game, make sure to make a copy of your save file backed up somewhere, just in case.

If you’re looking for more assistance, our Witcher 3 walkthrough can help.

How to install mods in The Witcher 3, step-by-step

There are two ways to install mods in the PC version of The Witcher 3 — manually, or through a mod manager.

How to install The Witcher 3 mods manually

In the event you don’t want to install another bit of software, doing it manually might be the option for you.

First, find where The Witcher 3 is installed — which is dependant on your platform of choice, such as Steam — and add a new folder called ‘Mods’.

Once you’ve done this, simply put any mods you download into it and they should work. This isn’t a catch-all method, but many mods will explain what to do if there is an extra step or two, like extracting files or renaming things.

How to install The Witcher 3 mods using a mod manager

Though you can install mods manually, our recommendation is Vortex, which is the Nexus Mods mods manager. This way you won’t have to worry about accidentally breaking the entire game by putting Roach on top of a house or something.

As Nexus Mods is where all of the mods can be found, it makes things manageable for those of us who don’t like hacking apart our games. It’ll also give you warnings if you’re doing something that is inadvisable, so you’ll have a nice safety net there.

To install it, simply click on the link above then click on the button that says «Download the latest version now».

Then, scroll down the page a bit until you see the «Main Files» section, it’s just below the first screen, so it won’t take long. Click on «Manual Download» under where it says Vortex, rather than the custom install location choice.

You can always change the location of the app later on if you’d like anyway. You’ll be given a choice between slow and fast downloads. The latter is locked behind a premium account. You can choose to sign up for a premium account if you want to support the app and the site, but you can download it either way.

Once it’s downloaded, open up the EXE file and let it run. It’ll automatically install upon doing so. Now you need to open it up. Then, login, and select the GAMES tab.

Search for «The Witcher 3» and see if it is in colour. If it is, you can skip the next paragraph, if not, you’ll need to set the location manually.

Select the plus sign in the top right corner of the image and then choose «Manually Set Location», then find the game in your files (often a similar pathway to the one in the image).

Once that’s done, it’s time to actually download and install the mods. The simplest way to do that is to use the links we’ve provided below. Once they’ve downloaded, drag them into the MODS tab in Vortex and voila.

Our picks for the best mods in The Witcher 3

This is a list of some of the best The Witcher 3 mods. While there are hundreds out there, these are the ones that most people love to play with. They range from the shallow to the deep, but each of them brings that little something extra to the fray. We’ve split it into two kinds.

The first are excellent quality of life improvements, and one big overhaul, while the second is full of some of the stranger The Witcher 3 mods.

    Increased Creature Loot

Simply put, this mod makes monster hunting a bit more worth your while. It makes each hunt feel less like a game of chance and more like a good way of making money and gathering resources.

It does this by increasing the loot that each creature drops and making it far more likely that you’ll get that extra cow hide from the poor cow you just murdered. [Download]

Picking up things is hard work, especially when The Witcher 3 is absolutely stuffed full of things to pick up, and that’s even without mods. This mod makes it so that you’ll always be picking up the loot around you.

Better yet, you can download the version that means you don’t rob everyone around you as well. That’s a nice touch if you’re trying not to get into trouble. [Download]

    Over 9,000 Weight

Given that we’ve now added extra loot to the game, and then made it all automatically jump into your satchel, you’re going to need stronger back muscles/a bigger sack. Well, that’s exactly what this mod does.

Not only is a nice reference to a classic Dragon Ball Z quote/meme, but it’s also an absurd amount of weight to be able to carry. Just don’t be surprised when you can’t find a specific pair of boots or that last pearl. [Download]

    Auto Apply Oils

Oils may well be one of the most underutilised aspects of The Witcher 3’s combat system. This isn’t because they’re bad, not at all, it’s because we’re all kind of lazy and forgetful. You can negate that issue by installing this mod.

It scans the enemies near you and then applies the appropriate oil, which is pretty handy. [Download]

This mod is a bit special. FCR3 houses a vast array of tweaks and changes, none of them are particularly huge, but that it was actually developed by one of the senior developers over at CD Projekt Red makes close as close to an official mod we’re ever going to get.

It does things like buffing some of the weaker skills and items, rebalancing some of the more powerful abilities; one good example of this giving Geralt the ability to see in the dark at all times by using his Witcher Senses, as all witchers are meant to.

It also increases the damage your allies deal to make them more powerful, and reduces some of the ability maximum levels from 5 to 3, all in the name of making things a bit fairer.

It’s extensive, but more of a death by a thousand cuts than a guillotine. [Download]

    Fast Travel Anywhere

Honestly, one of the biggest annoyances in The Witcher 3 is the fast travel system. While you can unlock lots of places to do it from, hiking around can feel a little more taxing than it should because you have to go to a signpost to fast travel.

Well, no longer do you have to worry about that, this mod lets you travel from anywhere. [Download]

Our Witcher 3 walkthrough and guide can help you with the main story, including the Wandering in the Dark and Family Matters missions, and eventually, one of several Witcher 3 endings. There’s plenty of side content, too, including Witcher 3 Contracts, White Orchard quests, Velen quests, Novigrad quests and Skellige Isles quests. Elsewhere, learn about the best Witcher 3 builds, the best Witcher 3 mods, how to make money in Witcher 3, find Places of Power locations, and learn how to do Witcher 3 crafting and Witcher 3 Alchemy And when you’re done with all those — we can help you through expansions with our Hearts of Stone walkthrough and Blood and Wine walkthrough.

The best other mods to consider for The Witcher 3

Once you’ve installed the above essential mods, there are a host of others we’d recommend checking out:

    Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra

Look, we all know why you’re here really. Henry Cavill is hot, we get it. You can look at his bum for as long as you’d like by downloading this mod that turns you into him. It also makes you realise just how obscenely hench the actor is.

So, yeah, Henry Cavill in your game. Enjoy. [Download]

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project

This one reworks the graphics of The Witcher 3 massively. Everything in the game is given a shiny new coat of paint and you’ll be stunned by just how much prettier the already stunning game can be. Just be mindful of the fact that it’ll tax your PC a fair bit, so be kind to your rig if it’s older than The Witcher 3 is. There are three parts to this mod, make sure to install them all.

They can all be found with the link, but you need to download them separately. [Download]

    The Gwent Card Dealer

If you’re not here just for Henry Cavill, then you’re probably here for Gwent. This mod gives the Baron’s quartermaster myriad Gwent cards to sell you. In fact, they’ll have nearly every card in the game.

You can simply by them and start deck building for real. Truly, this is a perfect mod. [Download]

    Photo Mode

The Witcher 3 is an intensely pretty game, even more so if you’ve modded it. Well, this mod lets you really drink it all in by eliminating the HUD and pretty much everything else.

You can finally set up some decent portraits of Geralt, and without worrying about being jumped by a Nekker. [Download]

    More Shadows

Very much exactly what it says on the tin, this mod adds more shadows to the world. It makes a lot of areas look more alive, and really makes the towns look stunning at night thanks to the plethora of lamps and torches about the place.

A good shout if you just like looking at the world. [Download]

The Best Mods For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2021)

    Debug Console Enabler

It is a must Witcher 3 mod, if you are considering to mess around with mods throughout the game. This will give you access to the Debug Console, where you will find all kinds of shenanigans, from spawning enemies, fix broken things to changing the weather.

    Nexus Mod Manager

For the unversed, every Witcher 3 mods live on Nexus and Nexus Mod Manager is the one that lets you instantly and easily download and install mods. While installing mod in the Witcher 3, be sure to keep a close eye on any information about conflicts and load orders. If you notice a specific load order, it is NMM where you go to make that change. Otherwise incompatible mods could work perfectly if you load one before the other.

    Photo Mode

Photo modes are surely the best Witcher 3 mod in triple-A titles nowadays. Talking about my best Witcher 3 mods, you can find it in God of War where you can force Kratos to have an overbearing grin. Notably, you would not be able to post Geralt using this Photo mode. But, you can freeze the game and spawn some specific weather conditions to add some flair. The camera spins 360 degrees and you can even make yourself and the HUD invisible to capture the perfect shot.

The drawback of this Witcher 3 mod is that if you want to take a screenshots, Photo Mode is a great way to take your screenshots, as it should interact much better with your visual changes.

The Witcher 3 HD Rework Project

This Witcher 3 mod is one destination for those who want to give their game a new graphical bump. The HD Rework Project makes everything look more stunning while still staying loyal to the original art direction. This mod helps you bring HD quality texture, high-quality meshes, and better levels of details to parts of the game that may have been a little lacking.

    Fast Travel Anywhere

It is too simple yet brilliant the Witcher 3 mod. Using this mod, you will be able to fast travel from anywhere. This mod removes the requirement of visiting a signpost to fast travel anywhere in the game. Instead, you can pick a point shown in the map and transport regardless of the where you currently are. Stuck in a boat off the coast of Ard Skellig? Just open up your map, choose a destination and far you go.

I am delighted to having use this mod traveling by Roach. I can not afford to waste my time selecting choosing loot from everyman and monster who falls to my swords. This the Witcher 3 mod, which has some filters in it, lets you decide what types of item you desire to pick up. If you are so inclined, it can also just snatch up absolutely everything.

    The Witcher 3 Over 9000

If you are looking for a Witcher who has been benefited from some hardcore Crossfit, then Over 9000 is the best for you. This mod allows you to carry a lot of loots as you like and works great with the Autoloot mod.

By now you will have found a good number of merchants and can fast travel directly to them to sell off your goods. It also comes handy in the opening hours of The Witcher 3 as you will have loads to trade and can earn a lot of gold quite quickly.

FCR 3 is a mod crated by one of the Witcher 3 devs, Andrzej Kwiatkowski. The mod has been described as an “immersion and rebalancing” mod this will bring all kinds of bug fixes, nerfs, rebalancing, and general fun your way. If you want a good overhaul of the major systems in the Withcer 3, then there is no mod better than FCR 3.

    Critical Slow Motion Mod

When you cut a man into two pieces and send his head flying across the screen, you need to have have some time to appreciate it or contemplate the fleeting time we all get to spend in this life. This mod will help you slow dong those critical kills and allows you savor your handiwork. You could pair this with KNGR’s More Blood mod making it a bit gory mess. Brilliant.

    E3 Dodge System

You must be facing some issues in the Witcher 3 including dodging. This E3 Dodge System introduces plenty of more stripped-down dodge system similar to one we have already seen in an early E3 video. If you are one of those player who have tried hard to enjoy the combat in the game, then you might find this mod appealing.

This mod will also help you making targets easier to hit as Geralt and his sword are always pointing forward, as opposed to rolling away and facing the other direction accidentally.

    Indestructible Items

This Witcher 3 mod helps you to removes weapon degradation from the game. For the unversed, weapon degeneration is often a silly system in the wide majority of games that use it. If repairing weapons is too laborious a task for you, then this mod should make your playthrough easier.

Its relatively small change in comparison to some of the other Witcher 3 mods that we have mentioned in this list, but it’s a welcome one nonetheless.

    Friendly HUD

This mod will give you all sort of control over your UI. It will allow you to modify each HUD module individually and add 3D markers for quest and NPC tracking, and it makes several improvements to the game menus.

    Auto Apply Oils

While playing the game, there are some Witchers who forget to oiling their swords before combat. And Auto Apply Oil Witcher 3 mod automatically detects the enemies that are nearby you and uses the right oil for the job.

To sell old gear is vital in the Witcher 3, but you occasionally run into a vendor who is running low on cash. If you are in need to have cash, Trademan helps you to change the price of merchant goods and the price they will pay for your wares.

    Sezon Burz Witcher’s Gear

Based on the book Storm Season, there is a set of gear available in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Fits in with the style of the game perfectly, and comes in different level and power options so you can wear while playing the game.

    Henry Cavill’s Face

There are people who love mocking the Gods and ruining perfection, if you are one of them, Modder Adnan has brought you a new mod called Henry Cavill’s Dace in the Witcher 3. If you want to take your experience to a new level, you must add this mod in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

    All Quest Objectives On Map

Through this mod, you will be able to see all your active quests, objectives and you can track multiple quests at the same time. Plus, you get the chance to change the currently tracked objective without even going to the Quests menu.

This is the list of some of the best Witcher 3 mods that will surely make The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt more engaging and interesting one. If you want to check out some other mods, head over to our Mods category on Gamer Tweak for modding links.

    Geralt VGX Snowboarder

If players have ever wanted to seek thrills and traverse the snow-covered mountains in The Witcher 3 in style, they can download the Geralt VGX Snowboarder DLC mod by Feregorn. This mod adds a Snowboard Altar overlooking the bay of Kaer Trolde where players can get cool new items, including a unique snowboard. Players can use this snowboard to travel around the world or use it as boots or a sharp, impromptu weapon.

    Christmas Geese

In honor of the holiday, players can give all the geese in The Witcher 3 holiday hats. The Christmas Geese mod by Valennia and Feregorn is very simple: it gives all geese a Santa hat to wear throughout the game. This mod was created as an homage to the Chicken Helmet mod, also on this list.

    Geralt Face Fusion

Face-swapping apps are all the rage, and players can let Geralt in on the fun with the Geralt Face Fusion mod by dekafe. Players can replace Geralt’s face with the face of some other NPCs including Vesemir, Eskel, A Clown! Yennefer, Eredin, Letho, and Avallach.

    Vesemir the Loyal Brony

Vesemir is one of the most mysterious characters in The Witcher 3. Players can give him a more discernible personality using the Vesemir the Loyal Brony mod by MistMods. This mod adds My Little Pony and Star Wars Stormtrooper facial tattoos to Vesemir. There is a similar mod that can replace every woman’s face in the game with Vesemir’s for an added level of horrible.

Similar to the Geralt Face Fusion mod, players can install the Geraltesemir Mod by dekafe, which creates the unofficial son of Geralt and Vesemir as the playable character. The creator describes this mod as «basically a (failed?) attempt at replacing Geralt face textures by that of Vesemir.»

    Chicken Helmet Mod

If players have ever felt bad that the animals in Witcher 3 are not armed and armored, the Chicken Helmet Mod by mk59093 is the perfect way to remedy that. This mod gives every chicken a helmet. These helmets look like futuristic mind-control devices.

You Have Lost More Than Coin

When Geralt commits a crime in The Witcher 3 and gets caught by guards, the guards take all his coin. But, if players want an added bit of humor and challenge, they can install the You Have Lost More Than Coin mod by ghostneedle. With this mod, guards will also take Geralt’s gear when he is caught committing a crime, leaving him temporarily pantsless. Players wil need to beware, however, because any gear lost this way is gone forever.

How to Install Mods for Witcher 3

Before installing mods, players should always be sure to back up their save file just in case anything goes wrong. Mods do have the potential to mess up a player’s game, so players should always include them at their own risk.

Players can either install mods manually or using a tool called the Nexus Mod Manager. The major difference is the speed with which mods will be installed and how easy it is to organize them in a folder. While manual installation is faster and does not require players to download extra software, Nexus Mod Manager sorts mods by category, making it easier to manage them all.

To install mods for Witcher 3 manually:

    • Navigate to the file location for The Witcher 3‘s game files.
    • Create a new folder named Mods.
    • Download a mod and, if needed, unzip the files.
    • Place the mod files in the newly created Mods folder.
    • Launch the game and check to make sure the mod is included.

    To use Nexus Mod manager:

    • Navigate to Nexus Mods and create a free account.
    • Download the Nexus Mod Manager tool.
    • Double-click to run the program and install it.
    • Launch Nexus Mod Manager and allow it to scan all discs to find titles it supports. Confirm that all game file paths are correct.
    • Download mods from Nexus Mods using either the Download with Manager option, which will automatically install it or the Manual 0ption, which requires players to move it to the correct folder like they would with Manual installation.
    • In Nexus Mod Manager, find and double-click the mod to initiate installation.
    • Launch the game and check to make sure the mod is included.

Either way a player chooses to install their mods, once they launch the game, they should see their changes take effect.

The Witcher 3 is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
